Are you interested in learning more about Mexican art and culture? Then this is the workshop for you! In this workshop you will carve, finish, and decorate your own mini chiminea (pronounced chih-mih-nay-uh) while learning about Mexican clay history and decorative arts. These mini chimineas are meant for a tabletop to hold a tea candle, incense, or burned organics (like palo santo or sage).
HOW IT WORKS:
Your host will come with wheel thrown chiminea bodies in various shapes and colors for you to choose from. One chiminea per ticket. Host Clara Sandoval of Mariposa Mudworks will guide you through carving the opening of your chiminea and adding feet to the form (or choose to leave your form footless). After a short drying break, you will decide whether or not you would like to do 2D or 3D design on your chiminea; Clara will guide you through both methods. There will be examples available to inspire you, or you can go with your own original design! After the workshop Clara will take your chiminea to be fired and finished with glaze.
Chimineas will be ready for pickup in downtown Denver area in ~2-3 weeks. Chimineas will be packaged in gift bags and wrapped. There is also an option to have your chiminea shipped to you for an additional charge. If you opt to ship, Clara will take utmost care in packaging your personal masterpiece, but please keep in mind that once the package leaves their possession, the shipping process is out of their hands. Delivery time is ~3 or more weeks depending on location.
