Join Friend Assembly for a hands-on pottery experience filled with creativity, community, and trash can fires! No experience needed, open to all curious creatives. This all-ages workshop (kids under 8 require adult help) introduces participants to Raku, a Japanese pottery firing technique where pieces are rapidly heated and cooled, often resulting in unique, unpredictable surface effects like crackling and metallic sheens.
WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW AHEAD OF TIME:
Choose to bring your own bisque-fired Raku clay pot made at our studio (to ensure it is the right kind of clay), or purchase one onsite from a selection of pre-made pots.
Each workshop lasts one hour and includes everything you need for a fiery creative experience. You'll choose a pot, select from a variety of glazes, and then take part in the dramatic Raku firing process—adding combustibles to the flames and finishing with a quick plunge into water for that unforgettable sizzle. You'll leave with a one-of-a-kind decorative piece to take home. Please note: Raku pots are not food-safe and cannot hold water.
You will have 3 choices of firing techniques: Traditional, Naked, Horsehair
There will be multiple sessions that will have online sign ups. There will be a small number of walk up spots available day of as well.
